Taiwanese chipmaker, MediaTek, is doing all it can to bridge the gap with Qualcomm in the chi market. Its latest flagship chip, Dimensity 1000+ is far behind Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888. In fact, it is not entirely on par with the Snapdragon 865 SoC. There have been reports that MediaTek is working on a new Dimensity 6nm chip.
Now, we have new information regarding the upcoming Dimensity chip. According to popular Weibo leakster, @DigitalChatStation, MediaTek’s upcoming chip will natively support a 160Hz+ screen refresh rate.
The codename for the Dimensity 6nm chip is “MT689x”…some reports claim that the codename is “MT6893”.
In a previous leak, we have seen the technical specification of the upcoming Dimensity 6nm chip. According to reports, this chip will use the popular 1+3+4 core architecture. It will have 1 x 3.0GHz A78 large core + 3 x 2.6GHz A78 small core + 4 x 2.0GHz A55 performance core. In addition, this chip will come with a Mali -G77 MC9 GPU.
According to reports, relative to many mainstream chips, the performance of this processor increases by 22%. The GPU performance also increases by 13%. This chip supports dual SA 5G networking and the new ISP supports up to 200MP± pixels.
MT6893 seems to be on par with Snapdragon 865
At present, MT6893 has appeared in the GeekBench database. The single-core running score is 886 points, and the multi-core running score is 2948 points. For comparison, the OnePlus 8 with Snapdragon 865 scores 886 points. For the multi-core test, it scores 3104 points.
Going by this GeekBench comparison, it appears that the upcoming Dimensity chip has a lot of work to do. Of course, we do not expect it t be on-par with the Snapdragon 888 which uses Samsung’s 5nm manufacturing process.
Earlier this month, MediaTek officially announced that it will hold a new product launch conference for the Dimensity series on January 20. The conference will have brand new products with superior technology and a better user experience.
